New Home for HDA
HDA has a new home in the Lofthouse Creatives offices, set within Stretford Public Hall. The offices provide a shared workspace for creatives and start-ups, in a beautiful architectural setting with a rich heritage and vibrant community.
Originally built by John Rylands, the local multi-millionaire and philanthropist, back in 1878 the hall was initially designed as a public library. Having seen a variety of uses since then, in 2015 the hall became a community-owned asset, managed by Friends of Stretford Public Hall; a charitable community benefit society set up to manage, maintain and restore the building. In 2017 a community share offer raised the funds necessary to begin the work and so gradually the building is being lovingly restored to its former glory.
Since being adopted by the Friends of Stretford Public Hall, the building now hosts a variety of community events. This includes cinema-nights, life-drawing classes and Christmas fairs, not to mention Well-being Tuesday which provides classes on mindfulness, yoga and more!
For guests visiting HDA there is now the option of meeting in the iconic Victorian, gothic-revival building – as well as the now famous Stretford Food Hall just opposite, with its sensational vegan street-food!
